DAS GERMAN CHOCK-OH-LATT!!

yeah yeah yeah, the dublin post is still in the works. i just wanted to tell you all, before i continue writing my essay (haha) about yet another food experience.

i had thought that cadbury was unbeatable...that the brits had done it again, and undoubtedly held the title of world's best chocolate makers.

not. even. close.

ritter chocolate, a german-made delight, found its way into my room yesterday afternoon. i tried the "butter biscuit" variety, which was a chocolate bar with shortbread on the inside, enfolded in the tastiest chocolate cream imaginable. i snarfed it.

there are other flavors, as well, so of course today i had to try another one. this time i opted for the "cappuccino cream," which was absolutely heavenly. milk chocolate around the softest, most luscious, most delicately flavored coffee filling. it was...incredible.

i cannot believe i have waited this long to try ritter. i cannot BELIEVE i have wasted most of my life with hershey's. but most of all, i CANNOT believe that no one else has noticed how catastrophically bad american chocolate is compared with what the rest of the world has to offer. we need a change, people! barack, i'm counting on you for this one.

and yes, dont worry, i'm bringing bars of it home for everyone (although i think they sell some varities in trader joe's! but not all the flavors...). we're going to pig out royally upon my return. you know, since i'm not doing that already.

sweetly,
lilly

  1. I think Barack is already bringing some delicious chocolaty-ness to the masses in the U. S. of A.

Valrohna, si. Hersheys, no. Dad and I went to Surfas today to get the GIANT Valrohna blocks. Addicted!

Aunt Laura has always been a huge Ritter fan. Her fav is the dark Ritter Sport. Sheri and Don are major fans, too, but I'm not sure of their favs.

  2. Oh, yes...love the Ritter and am a fan on Facebook! Many high school days in Germany Ritter was my lunch of choice along with Diet Coke! Grandpa Craig loved the dark Ritter and so does Joe. I just gave him some for Valentine's Day and his birthday (2 days later). I love the chocolate with almond. When I lived in Germany, I liked the yogurt, but I haven't seen that stateside. Glad you found it. I like the biscuit one too! Yummy.

  4. Dahling Niece,

Enough on the chocolate; however, I will take the darkest specimen you can find for me. Do not let the Bear eat it before it gets to me. I want to hear about lll's doing Dublin. When can I anticipate this valued information to reach your blog?

Oh, Bear mentioned to me you were planning a trip to Paris soon. You and friend just must have lunch at La Coupole in the Monparnasse district of Paris (blocks away from Montmarte Cathedral). It is not a tourist spot. The restaurant building is well over 100 years old. All of the pillars within the restaurant were pained by many of the great Impressionists for their daily food. While skiing in France, we met a couple of guys from Sweden who had just been there and begged up to stop in since they knew our next stop was Paris. I sent a girlfriend and new hubby several years ago, and they thought it was just fabulous. When Joe and I went back in the 80's lunch including an armangac souffle for dessert was about $10 each. My girlfriend went after the Euro replaced the Franc and said dinner was very reasonable. I can't imagine it costing you over $20, including lunch, dessert, wine and coffee, and you will sit among pillar work by some of the greatest artists in the last two hundred year. www.lacoupoleparis.com. Please, please promise me you will eat there. It's one of my great finds.

  7. They sell all sorts of Ritter at Ralphs. I thought you used to make fun of it because it had sport in the name, maybe that was Eric...

I still like Cadbury and Ghiridelli best.
